The Houdini Mono Air Houdi uses a lightweight version of the Polartec fabric

A jacket that uses an eco-friendly fabric developed by Polartec has won a gold award at a major European trade show.

The Houdini Mono Air Houdi incorporates Polartec Power Air, which sheds five times fewer microfibres than comparable high quality fleece jackets.

The development limits the number of harmful plastics entering the environment.

The jacket, using the lightweight version of Power Air, was announced a gold winner in the midlayers category by judges at ISPO in Munich, one of the biggest gatherings of the outdoor industry in Europe.

Swedish brand Houdini is one of the first in the continent to use the material. The Mono Air Houdi will be available in autumn this year in both women’s and men’s versions, priced £160.

Polartec Power Air fabric, is composed of 73 per cent recycled fibres, and uses a mono-material composition making it completely recyclable.

Polartec president Steve Layton said: “Houdini and Polartec are natural partners and we share a deep commitment to sustainability.

“With this updated version of Polartec Power Air fabric, Houdini and Polartec have achieved a mutual goal of a durable, long-lasting and ultimately circular product.”
