Mountain rescuers were called to a group of young men in difficulties after tripping on a Lake District fellside.

The Keswick team responded to several calls from passers-by in Stonycroft Gill north of Causey Pike who had come across the group who had ingested magic mushrooms.

A team spokesperson said: “Two in the group were feeling unwell including the driver in the party.

“The casualties were walked down and given advice by the team medic regarding the timing of their onward travel.”

The incident, on Saturday afternoon, involved 11 Keswick MRT volunteers and lasted two hours.

About 10.20pm the same day, the team was called out again to help four walkers descending the path from Styhead Tarn to Seathwaite.

The spokesperson said: “One was reported to have had an ankle injury and another a panic attack.

“The team deployed but after a short walk from Seathwaite farm the walkers were found after making good progress down the hill. They were walked back to their car at Seathwaite.”

The incident lasted just over two hours and involved 11 Keswick MRT members.
