Mountain rescuers went to the aid of a dog whose life was in danger after it became trapped in a north Wales river.

Volunteers from Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team were alerted to the incident in the Vale of Ffestiniog on Sunday evening.

The animal’s owner called for help when it fell into a ravine near Maentwrog. The dog could be heard howling but the owner couldn’t get close to its location.

A number of team members responded to the plea for help, with some arriving within 10 minutes of being alerted.

A team spokesperson said: “After a long search, the dog was located in a hole within the river underneath a fallen tree branch.

“The team established a rope rescue system, and were able to safely evacuate the dog to the top of the ravine where he was taken to a local vet to be checked over.

“There can be no doubt that the poor dog’s life was saved in this incident and we wish him a full recovery.”
