Two walkers were guided to safety by rescuers after one of them got into difficulties on Striding Edge on Helvellyn.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team received a call at 4.30pm on Sunday to say one of the walkers was suffering from cramp and was unable to carry on.
A team spokesperson said: “The team leader made phone contact and the casualty and his friend were advised to retrace their steps back to safer ground.
“The casualty had cramp due to fatigue, combined with wet and cold weather.
“Out of precaution due to the location the team went on the fell to walk towards the pair. The casualty and his friend started to warm themselves once they started to move again. They managed to get back to the start of Striding Edge and then met the team on way their down into Grisedale and were escorted safely back down.”
The incident lasted 2½ hours and involved 15 volunteers from Patterdale MRT.

15 February 2022On part of my walk last Sunday the rain was blowing full on into my face. Next time that happens I'll call the mountain rescue team and they can come out and shield me from the wet and cold.
OK I'm only kidding but people like this lot probably would call them for that.

16 February 2022Cramp affects us all at one time or another. Self help which never fails is sugar/ Kendal mint cake, and get off the bloody hill quick under your own steam. Two and half hours and 15 volunteers? That's ridiculous.
