A walker was rescued from a Lake District fell after getting into difficulties when he lost his glasses.

He had walked over Eagle Crag and Sergeant’s Crag above Langstrath and was navigating off-path through mist towards Ullscarf on Thursday.

The man slipped and lost his spectacles in tussocky grass.

Rescuers said, without them, he had difficulty reading his paper map and the mapping software on his mobile phone.

Realising he was in trouble he rang 999 and asked for help.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 12.40pm. Members of Langdale Ambleside MRT and three Mountain Rescue Search Dogs Association members and their animals joined the search for the walker.

A team spokesperson said: “Wisely he made his way uphill to the trig point on the summit of High Raise, an easy target for the search team once his position was eventually confirmed using Sarloc technology.

“When the team arrived it was a straightforward walk off back to Stonethwaite.”

Nine Keswick MRT members were involved in the incident.

The spokesperson added: “Thanks to the support from Langdale Ambleside and three search dogs.”
