A walker was stretchered from a popular Lakeland fell after injuring her ankle.

The 60-year-old was descending Cat Bells towards Hause Gate on Monday when she slipped and stumbled.

Her husband said he heard a snapping sound, and his wife was unable to carry on and the couple rang 999.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out shortly before 12.30pm.

A team spokesperson said: “A small team made their way up to the casualty from Manesty where they gave pain relief before splinting the leg and stretchering down towards Littletown in the Newlands Valley.

“The pair were then taken to Keswick so the husband could take his wife to hospital for an x-ray.”

The 2½-hour incident involved 12 Keswick MRT volunteers.
