A walker was rescued from a Lake District hillside after suffering a suspected broken ankle.

The woman, in her mid-50s, was walking on Gowbarrow Fell near Dockray on Saturday when she slipped on wet ground.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 12.25pm and its members used three Land Rovers to reach the scene.

A team spokesperson said: “The casualty was assessed by the team doctor and treated at the scene for a possible fracture to her right ankle.

“She was put in a leg splint and evacuated off the fell by stretcher to a team vehicle where she was conveyed to the main road and was then taken to hospital for treatment.”

The 2½- hour incident involved 14 Patterdale MRT volunteers.
