Ultrarunner Sabrina Verjee has halted her attempt on the Wainwright fells.
Her support team said she is currently resting after spending all day on Monday and the early hours of Tuesday in brutal weather on the mountains.
The last scheduled peak she summited was Armboth Fell just before 4.30am on Tuesday. It was the 148th Wainwright on her schedule.
Her team said she is resting and is well. It is not clear whether she will resume her run.
In 2020 she set the third-fastest time for traversing all 214 mountains described in Alfred Wainwright’s Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells but was dissatisfied with her effort because a knee injury forced her to rely on other runners to support her on later descents. She also posted the fastest ever time for a woman to run the full length of the Pennine Way.

04 May 2021That's a huge disappointment for Sabrina, when she was so well up on her schedule. On a related issue, why has there not been any report on grough about Anna Rutherford, who recently smashed the women's record for the Southern Upland Way by 17 hours? It's not such a big challenge as the Wainwrights, obviously, but it's still awesome running and surely deserves recognition.
