Searches are continuing for a walker who went missing in the northern reaches of the Yorkshire Dales.
Police said Harry Harvey was carrying camping gear and appealed to anyone who might have seen a discarded tent or outdoor gear to contact them.
The 80-year-old from Tynemouth was with an organised walking group on Sunday when he disappeared. North Yorkshire Police believe he may have got lost on the fells between Gunnerside in Swaledale and the Tan Hill Inn.
Search and rescue teams, including members of the RAF Mountain Rescue Service, are continuing the hunt for the experienced walker, based around the inn, which is Britain’s highest, 528m (1,732ft) above sea level on the moors above Arkengarthdale.
Local policing inspector Mark Gee, said: “We are extremely concerned for Mr Harvey’s welfare. Despite being an experienced walker, Harry has been missing for a long time now, in wet conditions and cold wind.
“We are appealing for residents and workers in the area to check outbuildings, sheds and barns, as he may have taken shelter in there.
“Harry was carrying all of his camping equipment with him, so we are also appealing to anyone who has seen a discarded tent or hiking gear to get in touch.”
Police said when Mr Harvey went missing he was wearing a dark-coloured jacket and trousers, walking boots and carrying a large dark-coloured rucksack containing all of his camping and hiking gear including his tent.
Anyone who thinks they might have seen Harry or who has any information is asked to contact police immediately. Dial 101, press 1 and pass information to the force control room quoting reference number 12200156224.
