A mountain biker has died after an incident on a Lake District track.
Rescuers said the man was with a group of experienced bikers descending the Walna Scar Road track near Coniston on Sunday at the time.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 2.30pm.
A team spokesperson said: “Two air ambulances attended, but unfortunately their doctors and paramedics were unable to save the gentleman.
“North West Ambulance Service tasked us with bringing him down to the village on our stretcher for liaison with police and other relevant authorities.
“Our thoughts are with the gentleman’s family and friends.”
The three-hour incident involved 12 volunteers from Coniston MRT.

15 July 2020Im afraid that this report is not accurate, the mountain biker in question was my Uncle and my brother and close friends were with him at the time. He did not crash as this article states, he collapsed due to a heart condition that we were all unaware of and could not be revived despite the best efforts of the emergency services and members of the public.

15 July 2020James, I'm sorry to hear you've lost your uncle in such circumstances. The report is based on information from the mountain rescue team, who said one of the group 'had an accident'. https://conistonmrt.org.uk/walna-scar-track/
I've amended the story in the light of your comment.

17 July 2020James, we were descending Walna Scar on our MTBs that day, and came across the incident, so my thoughts go out to you. As you say, there were a number of people performing CPR and trying to save him, but obviously it wasn't successful. Sorry for your loss.
