A group of walkers had to be rescued after one of them was overcome by anxiety on a rocky ridge on Blencathra.
The party of four called for help from Hall’s Fell Ridge on the mountain while negotiating a tricky section of the route about 200m below the summit of the fell.
One of the walkers became worried about the exposure on the ridge.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 2pm on Saturday.
A team spokesperson said: “One of the party became very anxious about the exposure.
“Uninjured but unable to move, the group made the call requesting assistance. A team vehicle was dispatched and team members made their way up the ridge, located the group and guided them down past the main difficulties.”
The incident involved nine Keswick MRT volunteers and lasted a little more than 2¼ hours.

13 October 2019The by-pass paths are fairly easy but the apex of the ridge is an excellent way to the top. Glad everyone is ok.

14 October 2019We were these people, we can laugh about it now but very scary as people who are not experienced walkers. The rescue team were great, couldn’t thank them enough for their help.

15 October 2019Glad to hear everyone was unharmed. It sounds like you just made the wrong route choice based on your experience.
Good decisions come from experience: Experience comes from poor decisions.
Now you have experienced this you will be better placed to make better decisions in future. Don’t let it put you off, please keep enjoying the hills but next time you pick a spicy route please make sure at least one of your group has the skills and experience to get you all safely up or down it.
Keep on adventuring
