Police in the Lake District have appealed for sightings of a man who sparked a similar alert in Scotland three months ago.
Cumbria Constabulary said it was concerned for the welfare of Andrew Moorhouse who was last seen on Monday in the area.
The last known sighting of the 47-year-old was about 9.50pm on Lake Road, Keswick.
A police spokesperson said: “It is believed Andrew went walking in the Keswick area.”
He is described as white, 5ft 11ins (1.80m) tall with short hair and a ginger beard. He was last seen wearing a yellow Gore-Tex jacket, black trousers, black cap and carrying a large rucksack.
Police said: “Anyone with information should contact police on 101. Officers would also like to urge Andrew to contact this number if he sees this appeal.”
In June this year, Mr Moorhouse, of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, was reported missing in the Aviemore area. Police Scotland and Cairngorm Mountain Rescue mounted a search for the man, who was believed to have gone walking alone on forest paths between Aviemore and Coylumbridge and the Cairngorm Mountains.
Two days later, officers said Mr Moorhouse had been found safe and well.

25 September 2019Beware this man has form for this kind of stunt. We’ve chased him all over the Peak District and had him arrested on occasion.
Brian Marshall
26 September 2019So why bother about him?
Phil Moore
27 September 2019what's the issue? is it not ok to go walking for several days?
Howard
27 September 2019Anyone wanting to know why it is an issue should google his name to learn what he is really like

27 September 2019Sounds like this man has mental health issues, not navigation issues.

27 September 2019Plus it's very ironic that Mr Moore gets very defensive about Mr Moorhouse, is it not??

28 September 2019Nothing wrong with multi day trips in the outdoors.
Question is, was this his original intention which he communicated to whoever raised the alarm?
If he hasn’t contacted them before the “raise the alarm” point, then his contact has done the right thing, regardless of his apparent history in the Cairngorms, Peak District or comments about his personal antics in various caving forums.
If he was having a good time, thought to go longer and further without contacting his emergency contact, then that is poor judgement. But raising the alarm was the correct thing to do.
As to why bother about him, I didn’t realise MRT had to conduct background checks on the individuals they were asked to help, before they set out. Is Mr Marshall so devoid of any historic misdemeanour that would warrant MRT to determine that you are not worthy of saving?

Doesn’t make for good reading.

28 September 2019I’ve read about him on UK Caving website and it doesn’t make for good reading. Goes by at least two more surnames too.

28 September 2019So the chap sounds like a bit of a dufus, is a MRT / services wannabe, is allegedly known to Police (although no links to press reports of court cases where he was found guilty were provided).
Last time I checked, being a major twit does not stop you donning a pair of boots, going hiking and enjoying the outdoors.

30 September 2019@Wainwrightwalker Do you not think that he might not really be missing all?
That he perhaps reports himself missing/overdue and then seems to be found safe and well by the police and not by MRT.
He hasn't been plucked from a ravine or a cliff face. In fact he is a self styled rescue hero himself who has climbed some of the highest peaks in the world. Although his barely literate ramblings on his web page only seem to show pictures of the Peak District and nowhere too far from a car.
Perhaps he is just an attention seeking serial time waster. Maybe he needs help with his fantasies.
If people persistently ring 999 with hoax calls they usually end up being prosecuted. Maybe, he needs that sort of shot across his bows. MRT are volunteers and being on call is hard enough without moronic time wasters.
Maybe he is just unlucky. Who knows?
