A walker has died after falling on a Highland mountain.
Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team was alerted on Sunday afternoon when the 70-year-old man slipped and fell to his death while traversing the An Teallach ridge in the North-West of the country.
As team members gathered at their base, the Inverness Coastguard helicopter flew to the area and found the walker’s body and flew it back to the Dundonnell MRT base.
Team spokesman Andy Beaton said: “Two other walkers, who were in the vicinity, but not connected with the walker, were also airlifted off the hill and supported back at the MRT base.”
Dundonnell MRT leader Donald Macrae said: “Our thoughts at this difficult time are very much with the family and friends of the deceased.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank other hillwalkers who supported us along with the amazing efforts of our colleagues from the Coastguard helicopter based in Inverness.
“Sadly, this is the second fatality we have been involved with on this mountain this year.”
The incident involved 14 volunteers from Dundonnell MRT.
Police Scotland area commander Chief Inspector Jamie Wilson said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this time and I would like to pass on my thanks to our colleagues at the Coastguard and also to the Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team who provided assistance.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
In May, a 60-year-old man died on An Teallach. The walker’s body was found after a search by the Dundonnell team, colleagues from the Torridon and Kintail teams, Stornoway Coastguard helicopter and the RAF Mountain Rescue Service.
