A woman was airlifted from a Peak District hillside after injuring herself in a fall.
Two mountain rescue teams and two helicopters were involved in the rescue on Wednesday on the northern slopes of Bleaklow.
Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 3.35pm to the incident in Middle Black Clough overlooking Woodhead Pass. The team said the woman had taken a serious fall.
A team spokesperson said: “The incident rapidly escalated into a large multi-agency rescue with our neighbours Glossop Mountain Rescue Team called to assist. Northwest Ambulance Service, North West Air Ambulance and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency were also in attendance.
“Given the location of the casualty and the difficulty of a technical rope rescue which would have taken some considerable time, a request was made to the Coastguard to winch the casualty directly from the location of the incident.”
Rescuers set up a rope-rescue system in case the Coastguard Sikorsky S-92 was unable to winch the injured woman from the tricky location.
The spokesperson said: “Due to some very skilled piloting, the lady was winched from the casualty site to the top of the hillside where she was carried a short distance by stretcher to the waiting North West Air Ambulance for onward travel to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield for further treatment.
“Another fine example of our emergency services working together to help those in need.
“We would like to wish the lady a speedy recovery.”

25 May 2019"You have to be and idiot to fall from those mounds" Clearly, written by an idiot who knows little about the countryside.

25 May 2019Sorry, I was maybe a bit harsh calling her an idiot.
Although I sill can't understand how a blind person wouldn't have realised she'd probably take a fall out there, which she clearly ended up doing.
