A climber has died in a fall on a Lake District crag.
Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 6.35pm on Sunday after the man fell while climbing on Raven Crag in Great Langdale.
He suffered multiple injuries in the fall. A rescue team spokesperson said: “Despite efforts from bystanders and the team, sadly he was declared deceased at the scene.”
His body was taken from the crag to Ambleside.
The three-hour operation involved 17 Langdale Ambleside MRT volunteers.
Raven Crag, which rises above the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, has more than 120 graded rock-climbing routes, ranging from Severe to E8.

26 April 2018So sorry to hear this. What was he climbing? Was he lead climbing or soloing? What route was it. Did a hold break or what?

01 May 2018Sad to hear, and could have happened to any of us. There was one famous climber who refused un-roped descents and always down climbed if no ready path available.

08 May 2018I've climbed for many years and the descent off Raven crag is the one that I never look forward too, if there is a good reason for putting a abseiling bolt anywhere, then this is the place. I wonder how many incident have occurred at this descent point, it would in opinion warrant such action as bolting.
