A passing walker has found a woman’s body on a Lake District fell.

The discovery was made on Thursday morning at the top of Rossett Gill, near Angle Tarn above Great Langdale.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 9.40am but was unable to contact the person who found the 25-year-old woman’s body.

Team members went to the scene and the Great North Air Ambulance was scrambled. A Langdale Ambleside MRT spokesperson said: “Once on scene it was confirmed that the casualty was deceased and her body was flown to the valley floor for onward transport to Ambleside.”

Cumbria Constabulary said it did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances around the death of the woman, who was not from Cumbria, officers said.

The coroner has been informed.
