Designed for life above the tree line…
For autumn-winter 2017, Fjallraven’s product range ventures above the treeline with the launch of its new Bergtagen collection, a system of highly functional mountaineering garments built on equal parts of tradition and innovation.

Each layer makes no compromises on functionality, durability, quality and sustainability and has been designed in collaboration with an elite test team, including Sweden’s first mountain guide Stefan Palm. The Bergtagen collection is for anyone who spends time above the tree line in one of nature’s harshest environments, where life struggles to exist and demands on gear are greatest.
The name ‘Bergtagen’ comes from a long-lost Swedish saying. It refers to how the mountains can change you. How, after even just a short time in their presence, you’ll feel spellbound and humbled by your surroundings. Designed as a comprehensive layering system, the Bergtagen range includes soft, moisture-wicking base layers, durable and breathable work layers, protective shell garments and warm insulation layers for breaks in activity.
Developed with high-quality fabrics and components including the RECCO Avalanche Rescue System, Fjallraven has carefully considered every detail in order to offer maximum comfort, performance and sustainability.
Base Layer
A warm and technical range of base layers made from moisture-wicking and antimicrobial Merino Wool. Unique to Fjallraven, the fabric has been developed by base layer expert Aclima and features four different merino blends to create body-mapped garments that provide the optimum balance between warmth where it is needed and ventilation and freedom of movement.
Each of the base layers has a smooth outer surface for easy layering and additional fibres such as polyester and polyamide have been added to the wool blends to enhance their durability.
Work Layer
A technical jacket and trouser designed for activities above the tree line, both the Bergtagen Jacket and Bergtagen Trousers feature an engineered cut for unrestricted movement. Made from durable, wind and water-resistant G-1000 Lite Eco fabric with G-1000 Eco across the shoulders, the jacket and trousers are both reinforced with stretchy Corylon (90 per cent polyamide, 10 per cent aramid). Exclusive to Fjallraven, Corylon is exceptionally abrasion resistant and helps to protect the jacket from excess wear.
The jacket’s seams are taped to reduce bulk and minimise friction when wearing multiple layers in the system. Other smart features include an adjustable hood, easy to open zips, ventilation openings and a RECCO reflector in the jacket.
Shell Layer
A protective shell layer for periods of prolonged rain or snow, the Bergtagen Eco-Shell Jacket and Bergtagen Eco-Shell Trousers are made from Fjallraven’s PFC-free three-layer Ripstop Stretch Eco-Shell fabric.
Waterproof and breathable, the garments feature optimised seams that have been carefully positioned to minimise rubbing from a pack. Both garments have a roomy fit to accommodate extra layers and the Bergtagen Eco-Shell Jacket has an AquaGuard front zip, helmet-compatible hood and RECCO reflector. Two layers of Eco-Shell fabric in high-wear areas help to increase the jackets durability and the ventilation openings and zips line up with the other garments in the system for increased functionality.
Insulation Layer
The Bergtagen collection is completed by a selection of insulation garments designed to keep you warm both during and between activities. The Bergtagen Lite Insulation Jacket is an ultra-light and compressible garment that can be worn underneath the Bergtagen Jacket or Bergtagen Eco-Shell Jacket for extra warmth in very cold conditions. Insulated with G-Loft Supreme, it offers an outstanding warmth to weight ratio, even in wet or damp environments.
For longer rest stops or when belaying a partner, the range also includes the Bergtagen Insulation Parka. With a roomy, longer length design, the Parka fits easily over other layers and features two 60g/m2 layers of G-Loft Supreme insulation. The parka’s lightweight face fabric is made from a recycled polyester material and has a PFC-free DWR treatment for improved water resistance. Multiple pockets increase its practicality and when not in use, the Bergtagen Insulation Parka stores neatly inside its own hood.
The Bergtagen Insulation Parka can also be used in conjunction with the Bergtagen Mummy Foot which provides extra warmth to the legs and feet while resting or on belay. Used together, the Mummy Foot and Insulation Parka can be used as a sleeping bag.
A nod to its roots, for autumn-winter 2017 Fjallraven is not making a journey towards the unknown. It’s making a journey home. And with Bergtagen it’s come prepared.
