A man has died after falling from a ridge on the North Face of Ben Nevis.
The climber suffered fatal injuries when he came off Tower Ridge on Saturday.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was called out and the Inverness Coastguard helicopter flew to the scene late in the morning.
The man was airlifted from the mountain and flown to a waiting ambulance at Torlundy.
A spokesperson for Lochaber MRT said: “We are sad to report that a call out yesterday was to a climber who suffered fatal injuries sustained in fall while climbing Tower Ridge.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends.
“A big thank you to R951 [the Coastguard helicopter] who did a fantastic job to make the recovery from a very difficult location and all the climbers who assisted and brought down the climber’s friend.
“A sad day.”
Tower Ridge is a scramble graded at 3S. It also carries the Difficult grade for summer rock-climbing.

10 July 2017My sincerest heartfelt condolences to the climber's family and friends. Well done LMRT and the crew of R951, huge respect. Sadly another tale of the harrowing and sad side of mountain rescue work. The worst possible outcome, but truly professional as always, Chins up guys.

30 May 2018Many thanks to all involved. As a close friend of the family and so often there with the chap climbing it's a hard situation to accept and adjust to, we're all managing and are extremely grateful for everyones help on the day and subsequently. The rescue teams offer an extremely valuable service and it's just so sad this particular incident ended so badly. We had both climbed the route before together and in winter but I guess that's mountaineering. Thanks again.
