The new tights are aimed at walkers who prefer a snug fit round the legs

Scandinavian outdoors brand Fjällräven’s latest innovation should stop walkers getting in a flap.

The Swedish company has added Abisko Trekking Tights to its range for spring 2017.

The stretch tights will appeal to walkers who prefer a snug fit around the legs, but demand the toughness of a traditional pair of walking trousers.

Elisabet Elfa Arnarsdottir, product designer at Fjällräven, said: “We have seen that many people like trekking in tights, especially women.

“But the tights that have been available, until now, don’t live up to the demands you meet on longer treks. So we have developed tights that we would like to use ourselves: robust trekking tights that can withstand scrambling in rocky terrain, sitting down on rough ground, making shorter or longer climbs and all the fun that comes with mountain trekking.”

The Abisko Tights use a dense, high-performance stretch fabric and are designed with outdoor use rather than sports in mind and are made from a more durable fabric with extra reinforcements in high-wear areas to ensure they can easily cope with rough or rocky terrain.

Part of Fjällräven’s Abisko range, which is optimised for warmer conditions or higher-intensity treks, the tights’ stretch fabric effectively wicks away moisture for constant comfort.

Fjällräven’s UK ambassador and record-breaking mountaineer Alan Hinkes has been testing the new Abisko Trekking Tights in the UK hills for more than six months and is a confirmed convert. He said: “Super comfortable and stretchy, the new Abisko Trekking Tights keep you warm but not sweaty and feel secure and tough to climb in.”

Multiple practical pockets are provided for storing essentials out on the hill and the men’s version features a waistband complete with belt loops and a zipped fly that offer the styling of trousers. The Abisko Trekking Tights also benefit from a gusset at the crotch as well as low-profile, flatlock seams that minimise chafing.

The women’s version, the Abisko Trekking Tights W have been specifically tailored for female figures and feature a deep waistband for optimum comfort and a flattering fit.

The Fjällräven Abisko Trekking Tights cost £130 and tip the scales at 300g a pair for the men’s version and 265g for the women’s. They come in sizes XXS to XXL.
