A man has died after falling from a Snowdonia mountain.
He was airlifted from Glyder Fach on Saturday but pronounced dead in hospital.
Police alerted Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation about 2.45pm after a woman who was walking on the steep footpath to the East of Bristly Ridge witnessed the fall. She saw the man plummet down from the scrambling route down the steep rocks on the east side of the ridge.
The rescue team said it was a clear winter’s day, though most of the recent snow had gone, leaving just patches in the upper gullies.
Chris Lloyd of the rescue team said: “The casualty appeared to have serious injuries and was unresponsive.
“With this information, the team leader immediately requested the support of MCA’s helicopter based at Caernarfon. A callout was sent to team members.
“When the team leader telephoned the informant, she reported that two climbers were descending on a rope from the ridge to attend to the casualty. As team members mustered at Oggi Base, R936, the helicopter, flew into the valley and went straight to the incident site.
“The casualty was winched on board and flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital at Bangor. There he was pronounced dead.”
Mr Lloyd said the two climbers were seen to return to the Bristly Ridge, and descend with others. It is not known if these were members of the casualty’s party or witnesses, he added.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the casualty. A tragic incident on such a beautiful day. OVMRO thanks the lady who so promptly telephoned reporting this incident and for the two climbers who went to the assistance of the casualty.”
