Two sisters were rescued from the Peak District’s highest hill after getting lost in worsening weather.

One of the women lost a boot in a peat bog on Kinder Scout on Friday.

Four mountain rescue teams were involved in the search for the two women, and the team’s search dogs were also called out after being alerted about 5pm.

The teams’ regional controller attempted to locate the pair using the Sarloc system that sends a link to a smartphone, but failed to get a fix on the walkers.

An Edale MRT spokesperson said: “As part of a pre-plan for these type of incidents, four teams are called out and each cover their own area of Kinder Scout.

“Members from Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, Glossop Mountain Rescue Team and Kinder Mountain Rescue Team, along with search dog handlers were all called to their respective team bases.

“Teams were deployed to the necessary search patterns and search dogs made their way up on to the plateau to locate the sisters. Thankfully the pair were soon located safe and well by search dog Dolly from Kinder MRT.

“After a quick check over and the arrival of a spare boot – due to one of them having parted company with their in a bog – the pair were walked back down to Edale village by members of Edale and Buxton teams.”

The five-hour rescue involved 28 mountain rescue team volunteers.
