A walker was sledged from the Peak District’s highest hill after breaking her wrist in a fall.
Edale Mountain Rescue Team used its specialised stretcher to bring the 70-year-old from Kinder Scout on Thursday evening after she fell while descending the hill below Ringing Roger.
Team member Ed Proudfoot said: “The lady had tumbled, and managed to break her wrist. Team members including a team paramedic assessed and treated her injuries before sledging her on a stretcher down to Edale village and the waiting ambulance.
“The Bell rescue stretcher used on this occasion is designed to be sledged across a variety of terrain, including heather moorland. This makes for a smooth and rapid evacuation.”
Members of the Buxton team also took part in the rescue.
On Wednesday evening, Edale team members diverted from training with a new search dog to help a couple who got stuck in a bog near White Edge above Froggatt.
Mr Proudfoot said: “The couple were quickly located and assisted onto drier land, returning back to their car before night set in.”
Earlier in the day, Edale’s volunteers were called out along with the Buxton team to rescue a 17-year-old girl who injured her leg while walking on a footpath near Haddon Hall, Bakewell.
Police also requested Edale MRT’s help to search for two vulnerable missing men on Saturday. Team members joined colleagues from Woodhead MRT and Yorkshire Lowland Search and Rescue Team to look for a man with dementia near Doncaster. Mr Proudfoot said: “Fortunately, he was found by other search teams prior to Edale members arriving.
“Later on in the day we were asked along with Buxton Mountain Rescue Team to support Derbyshire police in their search for a missing vulnerable gentleman in the Mam Tor area.
“Team members were able to deploy on to the hill to assist police in bringing the gentleman to safety.”
