Paignton teenager Nathan Wood

Police searching for a missing teenager in Devon have found a body.

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police said the discovery was made in the River Dart about noon on Sunday.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but Nathan Wood’s family have been informed.

Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Ashburton spent six hours on Friday night and early Saturday morning covering areas north of Totnes where the 16-year-old Paignton boy had last been seen.

Nathan had gone out with a group of female friends and was last seen heading towards the river in the Swallowfields area about 6pm on Friday.

Police said detectives from Totnes CID will carry out a full investigation into the circumstances of the teenager’s death and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Torquay-based Inspector Tracy Sharam said: “We would like to thank the community in Totnes for their support while the search has been underway for Nathan over the last few days.

“Our thoughts remain with the family at this difficult and upsetting time.”

Anyone with information that could assist with the investigation is asked to email police or call 101 quoting reference 775 of 5 August.
