Two walkers were brought to safety after going missing on the Peak District’s highest hill.

Derbyshire Police alerted Edale Mountain Rescue Team about 7.05pm on Saturday.

An Edale MRT spokesperson said: “Initially thought to be in the Crookstone Out Moor region, we managed to ping their smartphone and gain an accurate location just south of Grindslow Knoll.”

Grindslow Knoll is about 3½km (2 miles) away from the position the walkers were originally reported to be in.

The Edale team spokesperson said: “As it happened Buxton team was in the area on a training exercise and was quickly able to deploy team members and kit to the cold couple.

“After rewarming and checking their welfare, Buxton members escorted the two back down to Edale.”
