Police said the 44-year-old is a keen walker and is known to travel to Ullapool and the Isle of Skye.
He was reported missing from Newmills near Dunfermline yesterday.
Sergeant Kirk Donnelly from Dunfermline Police Station, who is leading the inquiry, said: “We are becoming increasing concerned for Robin’s welfare and would urge anyone who may have seen him or his vehicle to contact us.
“I would also urge Robin himself to contact his family or the police if he sees this appeal to let us know he is safe.”
