A walker heading for a Lake District scrambling route discovered a man’s body at the base of a crag.
Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was called out after the discovery on Sunday on Horn Crag, in Far Easedale.
The team was alerted about 12.20pm and requested help from Kendal MRT in recovering the 56-year-old Worcester man’s body.
A Langdale Ambleside MRT spokesperson said: “A difficult technical evacuation ensued and the body was recovered and handed over to the authorities.”
The five-hour operation involved 16 Langdale members. Five Kendal team members were stood down while on their way to the incident.

21 October 2015It is with great sadness in my heart to discover my older brother Keith has recently died doing what he loved best.
I pay tribute to my older brother as the passion for life was always there, and I thank all his good friends to those who knew him.
Keith was born on June 17th 1959 and was five years older than me. He comes from a large family and was in many ways our protector and big brother who looked out for us all.
Keith had an early turbulent life and lost many years he would never recover, so in his mid 40's he re-discovered his youth for bikes, climbing and was always a fitness fanatic. Keith was also a loner and distanced from our family though we all loved him dearly, but we respected his privacy and wish to be left alone.
As I write this I feel a great sadness and loss I cant explain, and one of deep regret also that we never had time to connect; but only in brief passing over the years and through face book.
I will remember my brother always for the love and protection he gave me as young boy, and when we met again as men; for these memories of our youth and upbringing connected us to each other.
When we were young my brother was the best apple scrumper in the street and could climb any tree. We went down to Cornwall one summer, and climbed Cheese ring quarry in black school pumps using stolen mooring ropes and boat clips from marina the barbican.
He bashed his head half way up and swore he would rather drink 8 cans of cider than go climbing again, and his best mate Pete Beal made him do it with hilarious results; it was a magical weekend and I remember my brother as the adventure he was and went back to become.
I will always treasure the good memories of my brother, and thank all those who knew him for the life he lead to the end.
