The American company behind some of the top outdoor brands is celebrating its 30th year of manufacturing in Europe.
Cascade Designs set up its factory in Cork to comply with its philosophy of local manufacturing.
The Seattle-based company, which produces gear from Mountain Safety Research, Therm-a-Rest, Platypus, Sealline, PackTowl, E-Case and Hummingbird, opened its base in the Republic of Ireland in 1985, setting up its Cascade Designs Ltd subsidiary to respond to booming trade in Europe.
Cascade Designs has manufactured and serviced brands that have evolved into market leaders in the industry, serving 22 countries across Europe. By manufacturing within the market, it said it has allowed the company to retain control over the quality and availability of what is sold across Europe.
James Cotter, managing director of European business, said: “We have reason to be very proud of everything we’ve accomplished during these past 30 years.
“Manufacturing inside our market is the cornerstone of our business philosophy. The combination of innovative products, a dedicated team and loyal customers has allowed us to grow the business, while securing and creating jobs in Ireland over the years.”
Cascade Designs introduced many industry-first and revolutionary products including the original self-inflating Therm-a-Rest mattress and first multi-fuel camping stove from MSR.
Other highlights for the company included the introduction of the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir insulated air mattress in 2006 and MSR Reactor Stove System in 2007. More recent highpoints for the company include the launch of 2014 Outdoor Industry Award winners MSR Windburner Personal Stove System and Therm-a-rest Evolite.
