Two people who set out for a walk at 5pm on a Lake District path had to be rescued when it got dark.
The pair set off from Patterdale Youth Hostel on a return walk to Howtown along the shore of Ullswater.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue team was called out 3½ hours later when the walkers were unable to carry on on the lakeside path, with no torch after being overtaken by darkness.
A team spokesperson said: “The rescue team responded, deduced their location and went to pick them up before returning them to the youth hostel.”

28 March 2015Mountain rescue should carry spare torches, maps and compasses and anyone who needs rescuing whilst or due to not possessing any of these items should be forced to buy them from the team at a price which makes a profit for the team funds.
