13 April 2017however experienced a person is even after a lifetime on the mountains it is not uncommon for them to make a mistake when trying to find a direction in heavy mist and rain especialy when tired. this occurs frequently on coniston old man as it also does on the faifield horshoe and on crinkle crags. I don't know of many mountain rescue team members anywhere in this country who would feel that they have wasted their time in helping genuine people who have made a genuine mistake.
