A Government minister will visit volunteers taking part in the next Fell Care Day in the Lake District.
Forestry minister Dan Rogerson is due to join several hundred participants in next week’s event, organised by Friends of the Lake District, around Grasmere.
Volunteers will undertake practical conservation and learning activities including tree planting; red-squirrel conservation and monitoring; a story-telling and a canoe based lake litter pick; upland path maintenance and repairs with Fix the Fells; woodland management; native bulb planting and a Sky Ride guided cycle around Grasmere.
Ruth Kirk, Fell Care Day organiser said: “This is a fantastic chance to join lots of like-minded people to make a real difference to looking after the spectacular landscapes that give us so much.
“Whatever your age, ability or fitness, we’ve got an activity that will suit you. Whether you’d like to learn more about the newly upgraded Grasmere cycle routes by bike, get your hands dirty with some woodland work or if you’d like to help serve the legendary Fell Care cake and tea at the end of the day, we’d love you to join us.”
Mr Rogerson said: “Cumbria boasts some of our country’s most beautiful landscape and Friends of the Lake District do a fantastic job of protecting and improving it. Their hard work and enthusiasm makes a real difference and I am looking forward to joining them for their volunteer fell care day.”
Volunteers will begin and end the day at the Grasmere Village Hall. More information is available on the Friends of the Lake District website.
