Outdoor fans have the chance to watch a brand new collection of adventure films produced by award-winning cinematographer Al Lee, while raising funds for a rescue team.
A special showing of the Brit Rock Film Tour in the South Pennines town of Hebden Bridge will help local volunteers from the Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team.
The team covers the hills and moorland of the northern part of West Yorkshire, and the film night will be a major fundraiser towards the organisation’s running costs.
Featured outdoor exponents include runners, mountain bikers and climbers, along with comical interjections and observational pieces from author Niall Grimes and funny man Dave Halsted.
The Brit Rock Film Tour includes fellrunner Steve Birkinshaw’s successful attempt to break the 27-year-old record set by Joss Naylor, running up all 214 Lakeland Wainwright summits in less than seven days.
Also on the ticket is Mina Leslie-Wujastyk, who has been climbing since she was eight years old and now competes for the GB bouldering team.
Al Lee’s film also follows Julian Lines, Britain’s most accomplished free-climbing soloist with world-class free ascents to his name.
The Brit Rock Film Tour also features Yorkshireman Rob Jarman, who is a record-breaking downhill mountain bike specialist and professional stuntman.
Tickets for the evening, which takes place on Thursday 6 November at the town’s Picture House, cost £10.
More details are on the Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team’s website.
- The Calder Valley team is also recruiting operational members to join its training programme starting in March next year.
Applicants need to be at least 18, with hillwalking experience and the ability to navigate well. They should also be physically fit and live in the team’s area.
The team said recruits should be willing to devote a significant amount of time to training, including weekly evening sessions, some weekend exercises and, of course callouts to aid the general public.
More details of the process are on the CVSRT website.
