An 84-year-old walker was rescued after suffering an injury on a fell in the North Pennines.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Thursday after the woman injured her leg while walking on the Maiden Way near Kirkland, west of Cross Fell.
A team spokesperson said: “She was stretchered to a team Land Rover which transported her to an awaiting ambulance.
“The team was assisted by Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team, and the Pride of Cumbria Air Ambulance also attended.”
The two-hour rescue involved 11 mountain rescue team members.
The previous day, the Penrith team was asked to help search for a missing 68-year-old man after a road crash near Rockcliffe.
Two search dogs joined 14 team volunteers in a three hour hunt for the man, but he was found safe and well by a member of the public.
On Saturday, the Penrith team’s joint training exercise with the Kirkby Stephen team was interrupted by a call for help from ambulance staff dealing with an elderly woman who injured her ankle while walking at Riggside Plantation near Brampton, east of Carlisle.
The team spokesperson said: “She was treated at the scene before being stretchered a short distance to the awaiting ambulance.”
Twelve team members took part in the two-hour rescue.
