A climber was injured after falling from a route in the Lake District.

The woman was attempting the climb on the North Buttress on Shepherds Crag in Borrowdale when she slipped off the first pitch and injured her ankle.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 4.35pm yesterday and went to the climber’s aid.

She was treated and given pain relief at the scene before being stretchered down to the road by team members.

An ambulance then took her to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for further treatment.

The rescue involved 18 volunteer team members and lasted 1½ hours.
