Three cavers were rescued in two separate incidents over the weekend.
The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation was called out about 6.45pm on Saturday after two men were reported overdue after a trip underground in Kingsdale.
The pair, aged 26 and 27, got stranded after losing their rope in a water pool in Simpson’s Pot.
The cavers were on a pull-through trip when the incident happened.
A team spokesperson said: “CRO teams entered the cave from the top and also from KMC Valley Entrance.
“The two cavers were successfully located, marooned at the bottom of Storm Pot after dropping their rope into a deep pool where it sank without trace.
“Both were escorted up to the surface and off the hill.”
The following day, the CRO was asked to help Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team extract a 17-year-old caver who was wedged in a narrow rift in a disused lead mine in Arkengarthdale.
The Swaledale team was alerted after police contacted the CRO initially, who passed it on to them as it was in their area. The stuck potholer was with a group in Windegg Mine.
A Swaledale MRT spokesperson said: “The team set up a lifting system and after some effort managed to free the caver and evacuate him and the rest of the party to the surface.”
A small number of CRO members also attended the incident.
Windegg Mine lies on Booze Moor on the north-eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales national park.
Volunteers from both the Cave Rescue Organisation and Swaledale MRT carry out rescues both on the fells and in the caves of the Yorkshire Dales.
