An injured walker was rescued from a Snowdonia hillside in an operation lasting six hours and involving two volunteer teams.
The woman sprained her ankle badly while walking in the Cwm Croesor area, west of Blaenau Ffestiniog on Saturday.
The 47-year-old, from the Wirral, was with family members when she slipped and injured her leg.
Gethin Edwards of the Porthmadog-based Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team said the group continued walking for about three hours, but the pain became too much for the woman and was unable to put weight on her leg.
“With atrocious weather conditions and visibility down to around 100m due to the mist and rain, they decided to raise the alarm,” he said. The team was called out at 3.40pm and 10 volunteers made their way to the area.
The team searched for the group and found them on steep ground about 300m from Llyn Cwm-y-Foel.
Team members splinted the walker’s leg and gave her Entonox gas to ease the pain.
She was then stretchered down the steep hillside.
Mr Edwards said: “Owing to the treacherous conditions underfoot and the requirement for additional personnel to assist with the stretcher carry, the South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team was also called to assist.”
The walker was carried to an ambulance waiting at Croesor, which took her to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor for further treatment.
The rescue ended about 9.15pm
