A walker and his dog were rescued from a Snowdonia mountain after getting lost in poor weather.
The man, from Leeds, called for help after straying on to steep ground on Tryfan while retreating back down the mountain.
Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation was called out about 4.30pm yesterday.
Chris Lloyd of the team said: “He had planned a couple nights wild camping, so was well equipped. He had his collie dog with him too.
“After a night in the Ogwen valley area, they set off up the North Ridge of Tryfan. With a large rucksack and the buffeting winds, he decided to beat a retreat.
“As so often is the case, he wandered onto the rough terrain of the West Face. With the prospect of dusk, he made the 999 call.
“Initially, he had no idea where he might be as he had descended from the cloud.”
The team used the Sarloc smartphone system devised by former team member Russ Hore, which pinpointed his position on the West Face.
Mr Lloyd said: “A party of four was deployed to the mountain and a spotter was placed on the A5 road to guide them in.
“The whole party then retreated from the mountain to Cwm Tryfan and down to Little Willy’s campsite.
“Then to Oggi Base for tea and pizza and doggy biscuits. The ‘One man and his dog’ were then driven round to Nant Peris.”
The rescue ended about 8.30pm.
The team earlier guided to safety three walkers lost on the Carneddau.
Ogwen Valley MRO was called out shortly before 3pm on Saturday.
Mr Lloyd said: “The weather forecast was poor and the weather was poor: low cloud level, strong winds and some heavy squalls of hail.
“Police forwarded a call from a party of three, one man and two women, who were disorientated in the low cloud and whiteout conditions on the slopes of Carnedd Llewelyn.
“They had climbed up from the Ogwen Valley on to Pen yr Ole Wen and Carnedd Dafydd. The weather had been true to the forecast.
“The three, from the Midlands and Home Counties, all in their 30s, were suitably dressed. I believe that one member had lost confidence when the party became disorientated in the poor weather.
“Using Sarloc, the party was located on the southern slopes of Carnedd Llewelyn. Over the telephone, they were advised of a descent route to Ffynnon Llugwy and the Tarmac access road.
“They made their own way safely off the mountain and were collected by a team Land Rover and brought to Oggi Base for a debrief and cup of tea.”
