A former director of the Tiso outdoor retail chain has died after falling from a Highland mountain.
Donald Tiso was with another walker on Beinn nan Aighenan above Glen Kinglass when he fell late on Friday night.
Police were alerted shortly before midnight by Mr Tiso’s walking companion and Oban Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 1am on Saturday.
A Royal Navy Sea King search and rescue helicopter also flew to the scene from HMS Gannet in Ayrshire.
An Oban MRT spokesperson said: “The casualty had fallen on steep ground near to the bealach between Beinn an Aighenan and Ben Starav.”
The 50-year-old was seriously injured in the fall. The Sea King crew was able to fly to the site in clear weather and Mr Tiso was flown to Belford Hospital in Fort William but pronounced dead on arrival.
The Oban team spokesperson said its vehicle had made its way up Glen Kinglass to the rendezvous point when its volunteers were stood down. The spokesperson said the 957m (3,140ft) munro, 17km (10½ miles) north-east of Taynuilt, was in the remotest part of its area.
Mr Tiso was a director of Graham Tiso, the company founded by his late father, for almost 19 years, stepping down last November, when the heavily indebted company sold a controlling interest to JD Sports.
Donald Tiso’s brother Chris is still a director of the Leith-based chain, which has shops in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland.
Graham Tiso died in a boating accident in 1992, after which Chris took over the running of the company.
Police Scotland said their inquiries into the incident are continuing.
