The woman who is looking after the emaciated dog rescued from a Yorkshire Dales fell is appealing for animal lovers to help stump up to pay for his treatment.
The unnamed dog was stretchered from Buckden Pike on Sunday after a walker reported seeing it near a memorial cross at an aircraft crash site on the 702m (2,303ft) hill.
Members of the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association carried the dog for more than a mile and he was taken to kennels in Grassington.
The dog was taken to a vet by Helen Coates of the Dog People where it was found to have a badly broken front leg. It is possible the leg may have to be amputated.
Ms Coates said: “Well done and thank you to the members of the UWFRA who took the time to rescue this poor lurcher-Saluki lad from Buckden Pike yesterday.
“He’s at the vet’s at the moment with a badly broken front leg. He’s dehydrated and emaciated.
“Fingers crossed he’ll be coming home to us tomorrow.
“Although money is no object when it comes to the life of a dog, if he survives, he’s going to need some major treatment.
“If any of you can spare anything to help this dog, please contact me or UWFRA.
“Any donations, big or small will be gratefully received.
“Keep everything crossed for him, please.”
Eight members of the Grassington-based rescue team brought the dog from the fell.
Team leader Andy Jackson said he believed the dog may have been used for rabbiting as it had scars on its face.
A possible lead to the dog’s owner left by a poster on grough turned out to be false.
Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association can be contacted via the team’s website.

22 October 2013Can't offer much but I'd happily put to. Is there a direct contact? That link at the bottom doesn't seem to be working.
Clare Henderson
22 October 2013Likewise - have sent an email to UWFR But a link/email/number /address for the Dog People or Helen would help? Tried their website and although I think it's my computer I can't get on it at present.....
Lynn Hudson
22 October 2013PLease leave an address where moneys can be sent...good luck to the little fella, he ought to be called 'Lucky' x

22 October 2013I'm sorry to say this but the dog type, looks like a saluki cross, their whole life is running. For any dog to lose a limb is bad, but for a lurcher, it's awful. If his leg needs taking off, he'd be better put to sleep. Sorry, but that's my honest opinion.

22 October 2013If there could be an immediate way of online giving lots of people would, and I'd be the first!! Let us know, thank you x

22 October 2013We need a way to donate, pay pal maybe? Even if he does lose a leg he will be fine. They learn to balance and can run and enjoy life.

22 October 2013I have spoken to Helen Coates, who is looking after this dog at The Dog People in Grassington. She is gratefully receiving donations towards the vet bills for the dog, but her website has gone down. He is not out of the woods yet, but the vet says he is holding his own at the moment. I've added Helen as a friend and she will post updates on his progress.
If you Google "The Dog People" you can see a phone number and address, so you can send cheques to her that way. She is also going to open a PayPal account.

Good on all of you for helping the doggy out; such a heart wrenching story.
Shame that people still treat animals so badly in this day and age.
Wishing the doggy and any future owners all the best for a good recovery & a great life together.

22 October 2013Helen Coates: could you please contact us at Southern Lurcher Rescue? We would like to make a direct contribution to his treatment and would need the vet's details to do so.
Many thanks. It's admin@southernlurcherrescue.org.uk .

22 October 2013Just had a long online discussion with an friend about the way we humans treat all animals, next story I clicked on was this one. Grrrr and Yaay all at the same time. Will certainly donate a small amount (wish it could be more) as every little will help. Yes if this dog makes a good recovery and does lose it's leg I can see no problem with it living a full and love filled future life. I've seen plenty dogs with three legs and some of them can fairly shift. One Collie who used to come into my work could fairly jump as well. Good luck little dog. Where will we see how to donate?
Polly Wolly
22 October 2013Have shared the story on Facebook and will donate/forward the link for donations when it's up and running.
Hope he is fighting fit as soon as possible so he can find a lovely forever home xxx
Samantha
22 October 2013I would like to donate, could you set up a giving page then you would get gift aid too
Kate
22 October 2013Unfortunately its only possible to claim gift aid on donations to charities. It would also have to be a charity that was legally set up with the right sort of aims eg animal welfare.

Chelle
22 October 2013will donate small amount to him and same to mountain rescue. They do a fab job all year round! Lots of dogs cope perfectly well with 3 legs and run around having fun and living life.....loss of a leg is no reason to put him to sleep..... (R. Wainman)............ Has the handsome boy got a name yet......... I think he looks like a 'Wellington' ( the spot where he was found was near where the wellington bomber crashed ?)
Heather Farrant
22 October 2013Ridiculous comment about being put to sleep!! Shame on you!! I've known three legged whippets outrace my four legged dog with ease!
Will gladly donate to help this little fella. Hope he gets better soon xx

22 October 2013Wonderful that the poor dog was found and is now being treated. There are some lovely people out there. Unfortunately there are many who are not so lovely. If you would not mind anwswering my only question is what will be done with any donations over and above the cost of the vets bills?
Thank you

22 October 2013Hi Alisha. I will let everyone know when we have enough money. I'll be getting an idea from the vet tomorrow, hopefully. Any donations over the cost of the vet bills can be refunded via Paypal if necessary. But I was thinking of donating the extra to the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association. We'll cross that bridge if/when we come to it. Thanks very much. xx
