The incident happened on Tarn Crags, to the left of Sharp Edge

A walker escaped with minor injuries after falling 130ft (40m) down a Lake District Mountain.

His companion had to be rescued after getting stuck on crags on Blencathra on Monday.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 3.30pm after the man reported himself cragfast on Tarn Crags, near Sharp Edge.

He told the team the other man was largely unhurt after falling down a gully.

Rescue team members went to the scene overlooking Scales Tarn and south of the notorious accident blackspot on Sharp Edge.

A Keswick MRT spokesperson said: “The fallen casualty was fortunate only to have damaged his ankle, but was able to help himself down off the fell using a pair of walking poles, after a check over by the team doctor.

“The team had to rig the crag to recover the gentleman who was cragfast, who turned out to be in an awkward situation.”

In a rescue lasting more than 3½ hours, the walker was recovered from the crag and led to safe ground, after which he was walked off the 868m (2,848ft) fell by team members.
