The Norwegian welted Solda GTX

The Norwegian welted Solda GTX

It’s showtime in the outdoors world, with the giant Friedrichshafen gearfest followed by the smaller but equally goody-laden Kendal Outdoor Retail Show and the Reliable Outdoor Kit Show.

And coming up next month is the Outdoor Trade Show, all of which provide an opportunity for brands to show off their new products that enthusiasts will see in the shops next year.

Boot brand Zamberlan is very keen on its Norwegian Welted collection.

The Italian manufacturer had on show its Solda GTX which, it said, is stylish enough to use on the street but has the technical features to provide protection for hiking and backpacking.

The Norwegian welted construction means the boot can be resoled again and again. The Vibram Norwalk sole has large grooves for self-cleaning action, multi-directional lugs for optimal traction, braking and grip, and a bi-density polyurethane midsole.

This combines softer PU in parts for better shock absorption with harder PU for stability and support.

The Solda GTX has Gore-Tex Comfort Performance waterproof lining and is constructed in Italy from 2.4mm Tuscany waxed leather.

Men’s models come in chestnut colour while women’s are sand colour.

The boots will go on sale at £245. A pair of men’s size 42s weighs 1,560g and women’s size 39s 1,320g.

At the other end of the boot scale, Alpine mountaineers are being offered the new Dru GTX.

The uppers are constructed from microfibre and ceramic Cordura offering better durability than suede and have an integrated Neoprene gaiter.

The boots are aimed at mountaineers operating up to the 4,000m mark and have Gore-Tex insulated Comfort lining and Thermo footbed.

There is a 360 degree rubber rand protecting the boots, the crampon compatibility of which is B3.

A pair of size 42s, weighing 1,900g, will retail for £300.

The Route GTX is Zamberlan’s classic backpacking boot, made from quality Nabuk leather and Perwanger waxed suede, both given the Hydrobloc treatment.

Available in men’s and women’s models, the Route GTX again has Gore-Tex Performance Comfort waterproofing and also features a shaped tongue for better wrapping and has a high cuff.

Side traction webbing is said by the company to lock the heel into place and the boot has the Vibram StarTrek sole.

The Route GTX will go on sale for £175 and weighs 1,660g for the men’s size 42 and 1,500g for the women’s size 39.

Colours are espresso and sand respectively.

The Gear GTX again features Gore-Tex Performance Comfort waterproof lining in a lighter boot aimed at backpackers.

The boot has Perwanger waxed suede uppers combined with mesh panels to aid ventilation.

The Gear GTX has Zamberlan’s Vibram LH07 outsole with a PU midsole and TPU insert for stability.

The boots will cost £155 and weigh 1,290g for the men’s and 1,190g for the women’s.

Zamberlan tells us it thinks one of its best sellers will be the Lady Lite GTX, manufactured exclusively in women’s fit. The boot has been developed from the popular Lady Lite, but has updated soles, leather and construction.

The sole is Zamberlan’s Vibram Grivola unit and the uppers are in Hydrobloc full-grain Nubuck leather.

The cuff is cut lower for extra comfort and the model has Gore-Tex Comfort waterproofing.

The £170 Lady Lite GTX comes in sizes 36 to 43 and weighs 1,290g a pair.

More details about Zamberlan’s range are on its website.
