A mountain biker has died after a fall on a Peak District hillside.
The man came off his bike near Laddow Rocks on Black Hill, north of Crowden, today.
Volunteers from two mountain rescue teams went to the man’s aid, along with the North West Air Ambulance and a police helicopter.
Five Glossop MRT members were joined by 16 from Kinder MRT in the incident.
Neale Pinkerton, team leader of the Kinder team, said: “Unfortunately the rider did not survive the fall. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to his family and friends.”
The rescue operation took 6¼ hours.

29 July 2013Thoughts go out to family and friends. Should he have been cycling at Laddow rocks?

29 July 2013Of course he should have been riding at Laddow, It's much riskier riding up Woodhead on the road to get there. Lets have a little more sympathy and understanding and less blame and approbation.

29 July 2013Not a bridle way, but lots of folk use it now, especially in the dry weather. Condolences to his family and friends, sad all ways up.
Just an aside, I regularly ride on wood head road and have had more accidents/close calls in Manchester. Although just 1 accident with an HGV at 40+mph.......

29 July 2013Sincere condolences to his family and friends. I have been riding off road for over 15 years and this news made me hug my little boy a bit tighter at bedtime tonight. Terrible accident. c

30 July 2013Condolences to his family and friends, a very sad case. There were about six guys and one lady. When we saw them approaching from the north they were really struggling with their bikes (2 or 3 were carrying them). MRT continuously advise all bikers to stay away from this section above Laddow, it is just too risky.
A tragic waste of a life.
Parky
31 July 2013Not only dangerous but unlawful. There is no legal right of way for bikes on that part of the Pennine Way. There are clear signs and notices to this effect at all the official access points. This not the time or place for recrimination but had they heeded this, then it would not have happened.

05 August 2013Well Parky, he won't be doing it again... Please spare a thought for the friends and family before getting on your high horse about it - a man has lost is life doing something he loves, I think that's very sad and I add my condolences to those listed above.
