A man was rescued from a Lake District after suffering serious injuries at a quarry used by climbers.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out in the early hours of this morning after being alerted to the incident.
The man, in his 50s, fell about 15m (50ft) at Hodge Close Quarry near Coniston.
The team was called out about 35 minutes after midnight and joined Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics from North West Ambulance Service in the operation.
A Coniston MRT spokesperson said: “The man who was camping in the area was treated for severe head and probable chest injuries before being evacuated from the quarry.
“He was transferred to an ambulance from North West Ambulance Service and taken to Furness General Hospital [in Barrow in Furness].”

19 July 2013I was in a camper van near the scene and was the person who summoned the emergency services. If anyone has any further information on the condition of the man who fell, could they please reply to this.

09 August 2013I am the man that was involved I sustained 7 broken ribs, hemothrax and a 2" hole in my head that required skin graft surgery. I am making a good recovery.
