A woman was rescued after injuring herself while walking in the Lake District.

The woman, described by rescuers as elderly, tripped and cut her head while walking on the shore path at Buttermere.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 12.20pm today and 17 volunteer members were involved in the incident.

The walker was treated at the scene by crew from the Great North Air Ambulance and team members then stretchered her to a waiting ambulance.
