A Highland bothy that has been rebuilt after being destroyed by fire  in honour of a climber who died in a tent near the West Highland Way.

The Gleann Dubh-lighe was completely gutted by fire in 2011, leaving only the walls standing.

The shelter, on the Fassfern estate near Glenfinnan, is in the care of the Mountain Bothies Association but owned by the estate.

An MBA spokesperson said: “It was accidently burned down in late 2011.

“The fire resulted from a faulty seal on a screw-in gas cylinder which allowed gas to escape under high pressure and be ignited by a candle.

“No one was injured as a result of this accident but the building was largely destroyed.”

Volunteers from the charity spent the past few weeks bringing the bothy back to life, reroofing the building, putting in windows, doors and a new timber floor.

The MBA said it has had considerable help from the owners and the shelter has been divided into two rooms. A sleeping platform is being built.

The Gleann Dubh-lighe bothy rebuild was completed in memory of Nicholas Randall, whose body was found in a tent in Auch Forest near Bridge of Orchy in 2008.

The accomplished climber and hillwalker disappeared in 2005 and his car was found in Glen Nevis three months after he vanished and there were various sighting of him throughout the western Highlands before the discovery of his remains by workers clearing a path near the West Highland Way.
