Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team used its boat to reach the injured walker

Mountain rescuers used their boat to reach an injured walker on the shore of Ullswater.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 3.30pm today after the woman suffered head injuries while walking on the path beneath Birk Fell on the eastern shore of the lake.

The volunteer team responded to a call for help from the North West Ambulance Service and launched its rigid inflatable boat to reach the injured woman.

She was treated at the scene before being taken across the lake to the St Patrick’s landing stage near Glenridding Bridge, along with her companion.

An ambulance then took her to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

The rescue involved 11 members of the Patterdale team.
