Rescuers searching for a walker missing in the Highlands have found a body.

The discovery of the woman’s body in Torridon follows a major search by mountain rescue teams, search and rescue helicopters and search dogs.

Police Scotland said they were alerted yesterday, Tuesday, after the woman was reported overdue from a hillwalking outing in the area. The 54-year-old was last seen in the Glen Carron area.

Members of Torridon and Kintail Mountain Rescue Teams began a search yesterday evening and a Sea King helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth also joined the operation.

The search resumed this morning, with the two teams being augmented by members of the Kinlochewe and RAF Mountain Rescue Teams, members of the Search and Rescue Dogs Association and a Coastguard helicopter from Stornoway. Police dogs and handlers also helped in the search.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police can confirm that the body of a woman has been found during searches for a missing hillwalker in the Torridon mountain range area.

“No formal identification has taken place at this stage; however the missing woman’s next of kin have been kept informed of this development.”
