Four walkers were rescued from a fell in the Howgills after getting stuck 1,000ft up on a steep path.

The woman and three teenagers were led to safety from the footpath beside Cautley Spout yesterday after they got cragfast.

Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of the walkers, who were at a height of about 300m.

A team spokesperson said: “The family were reassured and were walked off to their car at the Cross Keys with the aid of some confidence ropes.”

The rescue, the team’s 16th of the year, lasted 2¾ hours.
