The Stranda jacket

The Stranda jacket

Two softshells from Bergans of Norway are pitched at active outdoor fans, with one weighing in at just 550g.

The company said the jackets are designed to be worn in a variety of weather conditions.

Worn as a mid-layer under a shell in wet conditions, or as an outer shell in drier windy weather, they are breathable, windproof and water-resistant.

Bergans adds that the flexible and stretchy fabric also offers superb freedom of movement whether scrambling, biking or climbing.

The Kjerag comes in women’s and men’s versions and features four-way stretch fabric, an adjustable fixed hood and drawcord on the bottom hem.

It has a chest and two front pockets and tips the scales at 550g.

Retailing at £120, the Kjerag is aimed at summer use and comes in black, cold mint/greyish petrol, light lilac/blackberry or royal blue/white for women; men’s models are available in black, solid dark grey/sunny yellow, bluestone/red.

The Stranda is a heavier weight softshell with brushed fleece lining for more warmth. It has windproof and water-repellent fabric and the technical jacket is made from a soft and comfortable stretch material with underarms zips for ventilation during active activities

An extended back gives more protection to the vital organs as well as reflective details for better visibility.

Bergans said the cut is tailored so there isn’t loose material to flap around on a windy mountain. The Stranda has two front pockets and two chest pockets for gloves and other items.

Colours for women are black, blackberry/light lilac and for men black, navy/bright lime, solid dark grey/red. The jacket sells for £150.
