Hostellers with Apple smartphones and tablets can now use an application to find and book accommodation.
The free YHA (England and Wales) Guide App is available on the travel section of Apple iTunes App Store.
YHA said: “Once downloaded, users can search more than 160 youth hostels in England and Wales, view images, descriptions and information about them as well as the activities on offer, including climbing, cycling, mountain biking, walking and rambling and watersports”
The software is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and will also map the user’s current location and show the nearest hostel to them.
Joe Lynch, YHA (England and Wales) sales and marketing director, said: “Developing the app was the next logical step for YHA following our recent research into youth travel habits, that told us an astonishing 94 per cent of 16 to 30 year olds are booking accommodation online.
“That’s not a figure you can ignore.
“Our new app will support YHA’s website and contact centre in ensuring we are fully accessible to everyone who wishes to stay with us.”
YHA has a network of more than 150 locations throughout England and Wales offering a variety of accommodation, including youth hostels, camping barns, and camping pods.

12 April 2013The YHA needs to worry about its pricing structure before designing stupid apps. As a 23 year old Adventurer, YHAs really are the dogs knees, but a typical £16 a night for a dorm room? Come on guys, stop wasting your money on stupid apps - maybe an opportunity too contact the YHAs directly rather than a contact centre in Derbyshire may help people out a little more and increased opportunity for young enthusiastic folks like myself to travel and use your facilities would be much more welcome.

09 June 2022Congratulations “Matt Pointon” for slagging off the app. And all because you won’t pay £16 for a bed. Now there is no app as far as I can see on my App Store. That means scores of young people will not know about or be using YHA accommodation. It is ESSENTIAL to have an app otherwise how on earth do we find the hostels in this day and age? Young people use smartphones and expect an app showing them instantly where to go, how much and what’s on offer. Come on YHA, you’ve gone to the dark ages.
