A group of hypothermic walkers was airlifted from a Lake District fell.

Three mountain rescue teams were involved in the operation to reach the group of five above Levers Water below Swirl How yesterday evening.

Three women with the group were suffering from hypothermia and Coniston Mountain Rescue Team requested help from Langdale Ambleside and Duddon and Furness MRTs in the night-time rescue.

The Langdale team also took its Autopulse cardio-pulmonary resuscitation machine on to the fell, but it was not needed.

A Sea King helicopter from RAF Boulmer in Northumberland was able to airlift the casualties from the fell and fly them to hospital.
